Studying Construction Technology prepares students for entry into the construction trades, which require both technical skills and understanding of the construction process.

Description

San José City College offers certification and an associate degree through our Construction Technology Department and a apprenticeship programs.

  • Certificate of Achievement in Construction Technology and the Associate of Science in Construction Technology prepare students for entry into the construction trades, which require a technical skill and understanding of construction processes. The program is designed for immediate employment, upgrading of job skills, and potential opportunities for career self-employment. Click here for more information on course requirements.
  • Electrician Trainee Apprenticeship will train you to become an electrician. This program allows you to have paid employment while learning the skills you need through classroom education and on-the-job training. Click here for more information on how to apply.
  • Accredited Ironworker Apprenticeship Program is offered in collaboration with International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local 377. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn a trade in the most respected craft of the building and construction trades;and  the opportunity to become a member of the Bridge , Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers; the opportunity to earn Journeyman status which is recognized throughout the United States and Canada. This Journeyman status is security for you and your family for life.

Silicon Valley Adult Education (Metro Ed) in San José, CA offers courses through our Career Technical Training Department.

  • DC and AC Theory course includes a simplified description of matter and electron theory and the theories and laws governing simple DC circuits. AC theory includes the generation AC power in a magnetic field, the nature of inductors and capacitors, and mathematics for simple circuits. Prerequisites and Required Assessments

In order to apply for the Ironworker Apprenticeship program , you must have these minimum qualifications:

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the other construction technology programs. Even though a high school diploma or equivalency is not required, you may find that some employers prefer to hire employees with a high school diploma or equivalency. There are also more options for financial aid at the community colleges for students who have a high school diploma or equivalency.

You must take a placement test to enroll in Math and English classes for the general education requirements needed to earn an associate degree. You should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
