Facilities Maintenance

The Facilities Maintenance program prepares participants to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment in facilities ranging from operating rooms, hotels, commercial buildings to clean rooms. This is a high skill, high wage, and high demand occupational area.

Description

San José City College in San Jose, CA offers certification and an associate degree through our Facilities Maintenance Department.

  • Certificate of Achievement in Facilities Maintenance Technology and the Associate of Science in Facilities Maintenance Technology will provide students with the skills to begin or advance in a career in facilities maintenance. It was designed by the advisory committee to meet industry requirements. Students will learn the skills and concepts necessary to install, operate, maintain and repair control, piping, and mechanical systems in large commercial, medical, institutional, and industrial buildings. Silicon Valley Adult Education (Metro Ed) in San José, CA offers courses through our Career Technical Training Department.

  • DC and AC Theory course includes a simplified description of matter and electron theory and the theories and laws governing simple DC circuits. AC theory includes the generation AC power in a magnetic field, the nature of inductors and capacitors, and mathematics for simple circuits. Prerequisites and Required Assessments

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the facilities maintenance programs. Even though a high school diploma or equivalency is not required, you may find that some employers prefer to hire employees with a high school diploma or equivalency. There are also more options for financial aid at the community colleges for students who have a high school diploma or equivalency.

You must take a placement test to enroll in Math and English classes for the general education requirements needed to earn an associate degree. You should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
