Description

San José City College in San Jose, CA offers courses in Solar and Renewable Energy through our Solar Systems Department.

  • Solar and Renewable Energy courses introduce students to solar photovoltaic power systems and installation including fundamentals, mechanical and electrical design and jobsite safety. Upon successful completion students will have the skills necessary for an entry-level position in the field. The hands-on lab will provide experience with a variety of systems encountered in the industry. You can also study for the NABCEP exam and earn work experience. Prerequisites and Required Assessments

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the solar and renewable energy programs. Even though a high school diploma or equivalency is not required, you may find that some employers prefer to hire employees with a high school diploma or equivalency. There are also more options for financial aid at the community colleges for students who have a high school diploma or equivalency.

You must take a placement test to enroll in math and English classes for the general education requirements needed to earn an associate degree. You should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
