A Water Distribution Operator performs a variety of skilled work associated with general oversight, construction, maintenance and emergency repair of a water distribution system which includes pipeline, metered water services, reservoirs, tanks, pump stations and pressure regulating facilities.

  • Water Distribution Operator course teaches the basic principles of operation and maintenance of a water distribution system. The course covers the sources of water; installation, operation and maintenance of pipes, pumps, valves, meters, and other regulated hydraulic units.   • Water Treatment Operator course teaches students how to operate, inspect, and maintain complex processes and equipment in water treatment systems. They are responsible for treating drinking water to meet state and federal standards before it is delivered to consumers. Prerequisites and Required Assessments

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the water distribution operator programs. Even though a high school diploma or equivalency is not required, you may find that some employers prefer to hire employees with a high school diploma or equivalency. There are also more options for financial aid at the community colleges for students who have a high school diploma or equivalency.

You must take a placement test to enroll in Math and English classes for the general education requirements needed to earn an associate degree. You should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
