Description

Silicon Valley Adult Education (Metro Ed) in San José, CA offers certification in Welding through our Career Technical Training Department.

  • Certificate of Completion in Welding provides students with an understanding of manufacturing systems and processes common to welding occupations. Students will learn to use and apply various welding systems and processes. Instruction includes Oxyacetylene, Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG). Students will need to furnish personal equipment and some consumable items.

San José City College in San Jose, CA offers an apprenticeship program in Ironworkers.

  • Accredited Ironworker Apprenticeship is offered in collaboration with International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local 377. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn a trade in the most respected craft of the building and construction trades;and  the opportunity to become a member of the Bridge , Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers; the opportunity to earn Journeyman status which is recognized throughout the United States and Canada. Prerequisites and Required Assessments

In order to apply for the Ironworker Apprenticeship program, you must have these minimum qualifications:

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in the welding programs. Even though a high school diploma or equivalency is not required, you may find that some employers prefer to hire employees with a high school diploma or equivalency. There are also more options for financial aid at the community colleges for students who have a high school diploma or equivalency.

You must take a placement test to enroll in math and English classes for the general education requirements needed to earn an associate degree. You should meet with a counselor to determine the correct placement in these classes.
